Paper to Motion Pictures

TRIBUTES CALLING: CATCHING FIRE

Hello bookworms! As most of you know, especially fans of The Hunger Games, Catching Fire will hit the theatre soon and I'm sure all of you are way excited to watch it. Since I'm part of the huge anticipating fanbase of the series, I'll be doing a little snippets of the casting process so here we go!
Ensemble cast of Catching Fire

Finnick with Katniss in the Training Centre
First of all, Finnick Odair. He's the heartthrob of Panem with his sea-green eyes (cue: swoon) and sculpted Greek-god body. He won the 65th Hunger Games at 14 years old with a trident and net. He will be a prominent figure in Catching Fire as he was reaped as the District 4 tribute along with Mags in the 75th Hunger Games.

District 4 Tributes: Finnick Odair and Mags

Sam Claflin will portray this sizzling- hot tribute in the movie adaptation. Personally, I had my doubts when they announce Claflin as Finnick since in previous movie roles he lack the charismatic, flirty vibe that Finnick has in the books. In my mind, Claflin is the prince charming (as he is in Snow White and the Huntsman) that will be our knight in the shining armour, not the heartbreaker that Finnick is.

Enobaria baring her teeth
My favourite casting so far is Enobaria and Johanna Mason, from District 2 and District 7 respectively. Meta Golding was cast as Enobaria and she had to wear the teeth that Enobaria is infamous for (Enobaria altered her teeth to sharp-like-fangs after winning the 62nd Hunger Games; which she won by tearing out the throat of the last remaining tribute with only- guess what- her teeth). That's a lot of teeth in a sentence! Anyway, when I saw Golding's tribute picture, I was instantly wowed. She looks exactly like what I imagine Enobaria will look like. Especially the feral expression that Golding portrays while baring her razor sharp teeth (again the use of teeth- this is the time I used the word teeth so many times).

Johanna with an axe in the Training Centre
Johanna's Capitol Potrait
Now, Johanna Mason is another matter. Jena Malone was cast in the beginning of the year and at first, I did not notice her too much since my first choice actress was Naya Rivera. Then when the first pictures of the Capitol Tributes Portraits are released, the feminine Jena Malone has cut her hair and transform into the kick-ass, gutsy Johanna. She managed to channel the inner snarky attitude that the District 7 tribute possessed.

Hutcherson is looking pretty good for his upcoming role

Now, let's turn the spotlight to the cast from the first film such as Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) and Peeta Mellark (Josh Hutcherson). I've noticed that Josh has worked out and buffed up a little since The Hunger Games. This is according to Peeta's physical attributes as he is strong and can lift heavy flour sacks in his family's bakery. Katniss's wedding gown was designed by the genius Indonesian designer, Tex Saverio. He's called the Mcqueen of Asia. Of course one of our contributor (Red- Nicole Andora) is from Indonesia so let's just say we're pretty excited to see it in the movie, although some has suggested the use of the original silver runway version since it has more impact, as you would expect from fashions from the Capitol.

Effie with her Capitol fashion sense

Casts I'm still in awed with are Elizabeth Banks as Effie Trinket and Lenny Kravitz as Cinna. Banks role in the whole first movie was a comical one while maintaining true to her character in the book. It is with no doubt that Banks has aced the Capitol quirks very well. As the District 12 escort, Banks has to wear outrageous clothes with pink frocks and a voluminous colourful wig.

On the other hand; although Kravitz's character as Cinna is way simpler than the other Capitol people's appearance, he has this strong, soothing presence when he interact with Katniss during The Hunger Games. not to mention the wicked gold eyeliner that he wore (the only thing that shows he's from the Capitol). I've never seen Kravitz in movies before so I have to say I'm pretty impressed at his acting skills in the first franchise. Also, can you believe that Lenny Kravitz is turning 50 years old next year?! I swear that guy never gets old and looks amazing from year to year (he always look amazing- even pulling it off with dreadlocks).

Does he look like he's almost half decade old?
The mockingjay pin
That's it for this time's Paper to motion Pictures. I can't wait for Catching Fire as I'm sure it will be great just by the looks of the overall ensemble cast and the soundtrack, which will feature Coldplay with the song titled "Atlas". Catching Fire opens on Nov 22 and stars Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, and Woody Harrelson. Happy Hunger Games, everyone! May the odds be ever in your favour.
